According to the never-wrong, always right for serious you guys Wikipedia, Roald is pronounced Ro-wal. The Norwegian pronunciation is “ru-al” I guess, but the D is silent either way.
Good point about the Norwegian origin. If it followed standard British spelling rules it would be pronounced “Rudolpho” (the ‘a’ is silent, and the ‘dolpho’ is invisible).
