I absolutely LOVED the phone call between Jack and Heller. That was wonderful, so full of import and emotion while still mostly keeping it business. No matter what the various POTUS’s do to him, Jack still has so much reverence for the office of President. One of the best moments of this season so far.

I admit that initially I was meh on Heller as POTUS. But now I see how dramatically juicy this is.

Yes! We talked about this scene a bit, but I wish we had gotten to talk about it, especially with respect to the conversation about credibility…

I think the one-on-one phone call (or other conversation) between Jack and the president is a cool 24 trope, because he does tend to enjoy this special relationship with all presidents that he serves under. The joke that I had wanted to make is that the only character that has talked to as many different presidents as Jack is the Butler in Lee Daniels’s The Butler.

Another Heller-related thing that we didn’t get to discuss is the length of his speech before Parliament. He’s giving the speech until nearly the halfway mark in this episode. Given that he started in the previous episode, he was up there for probably about 36 minutes, which is an incredibly long time for any kind of political speech (although we don’t know how long he spent getting shouted down before powering through).

I apologize for being spammy here, but your podcast inspired me to think about 24 sunrises. My favorite is Day 7, where Jack tries to escape from evil scientists out to harvest his weaponized internal organs. Jack bursts through a metal door into the blinding light of a new day.

*Sigh* Who else but Jack Bauer could have weaponized internal organs?

Also, why does it never occur to evil 24 scientists to develop antidotes to their horrible viruses? But I digress.

Two enthusiastic, on-topic comments don’t count as being spammy! We’re glad that you’re enjoying the recaps and are excited to have you joining in on the conversation. If you have other friends who watch 24, but don’t listen to our recaps, definitely encourage them to check it out!

I forgot about the second half of Day 7, in part because the first half (Sangala’s reverse colonization of the US) is so awesome and batshit crazy. I’ll have to go and rewatch that episode.

I forget if we mentioned this one on the podcast, but I really like the sunrise in Day 4, which occurs near the end, when Jack’s death has been faked and he’s saying his goodbyes. I forget a lot of the details of that season (as with many seasons), but the emotion of that set of scenes really stick with me, with the golden hues of that sunrise are juxtaposed with Jack metaphorically riding off into the sunset.
