   One of the things I think if interesting that I keep running into listening to TFT is the way when we were born and when we grew up affects our reaction to music – specifically in reference to how I think Ryan is about halfway between my age and Matt’s. I mention this because I basically regarded the RHCP singles from Blood Sugar Sex Magik on forward as just general background music. The only album of theirs I actually owned was a gift from my cousin and that was their 1995 followup to BSSM, One Hot Minute (notable for featuring Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and therefore being more “alternative” and less funky).
   So generally they fell into the “I’m familiar with them but not a fan” category. Especially starting with their later return to the BSSM lineup on Californication I found them annoying and kind of dull, and I’m not entirely disabused of that feeling even as I do maybe have a bit more respect for them.
