Oh man! We have Columbiana and My Idiot Brother opening this weekend, which look decidedly average. But we also had Deus Ex: Human Revolution releasing for the PS3 and 360 this week, and it looks awesome. Keith Richards’s memoir sold its millionth copy this week, if you like music and/or books. I suppose you might like both. And of course, there’s the shocking (but not that shocking) news that Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of Apple.

A reminder that it was ten years ago this week that we lost Aaliyah, one of the most talented R&B stars of her generation. Here she is with Timbaland on a classic dance track, “Are You That Somebody?”.

Comment of the Week goes to Tom for his “sick burn” (Stokes) on Overthink This!: A Call for Submissions (re: Final Fantasy X)

The main difference between Moby Dick and FFX is that you have more control over the events of the former.

Youch! Take that, Squenix.

Could Keith Richards and Timbaland crank out a hot dance hit for the next Deus Ex soundtrack? Or is there something we missed? Sound off in the comments, for this is your … Open Thread.

Idk who makes the architectural decisions for Aaliyah’s secret agent cave but hologram steel door instead of a real steel door is just not practical by any standard, you’re taking an absurd gamble that the intruder is very easily discouraged, not to mention weather and raccoons- well she’s got the falcon for the racoons.

What was the sales pitch for that door? Power efficiency/green-tech angle? Maybe it’s really hot all year round and you need a draft but also privacy and running AC through the whole cave is worse for the environment than a green-friendly hologram. And maybe the cave is in a safe neighborhood so actual security wasn’t important as aesthetic of security. But this may also explain why Aaliyah has no possessions other than a falcon, everything else got stolen. The video shows power outages are common and thus the hologram door probably shuts off frequently losing it’s only method of deterrence.

She might’ve been able to sue that door salesmen for false advertising or just sic the falcon on him which can use it’s advanced vision to tell he’s hiding in a hologram file cabinet and beat him up to sign a check for the lost possessions, swift and mighty is the justice of the falcon.
