The Overview: Independence Day

Is this the greatest movie about America ever made? Quite possibly. It’s certainly our favorite movie about how a scrappy upstart nation called the U.S.A. led the whole world to victory over alien invaders. In this edition of The Overview, we tackle Independence Day from the political as well as personal angles. Find out why a stripper, a cable repair man, and an alcoholic represent the best of post-Cold War, pre-9/11 America.

You’ll need your own copy of Independence Day in any format, and you’ll need to download the file so that you can play both at the same time.

Download the commentaries listeners have called call “So good, I don’t even need the movie to enjoy them.” (Don’t get us wrong, we recommend you play the movie too. But it was awfully nice of them to say.)
