Overthinking It Fifth Birthday Party Recap

We had a blast celebrating our fifth birthday!

The Overthinkers would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to our fifth birthday party party in New York City on Saturday, January 26th!

Back, L-R: Belinkie, Lee, Wrather, Stokes, Perich. Front, L-R: McNeil, OTIs, Fenzel.

See? The cake was not a lie. And neither were the heartfelt expressions of gratitude exchanged that evening between the OTI crew and our fans. Anytime anyone thanked me for the work we do on Overthinking It, I thanked them profusely for taking time out of their busy lives to read our articles and listen to our podcasts. We’re still astounded that we’ve managed to find an audience and build a community around our idiosyncratic way of enjoying pop culture. That community has sustained this crazy endeavor for five years, and will, I suspect, continue to do so for many more years.

Also not a lie: the marathon karaoke after party, which featured everything from hip hop to show tunes, country, and Lee’s 100% Korean language-accurate rendition of “Gangnam Style.”

OK. “100% Korean language-accurate” was a lie. But we had a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to share with you the new and exciting things we have in store for the next five years of Overthinking It. That is not a lie.

Hopefully Sheely will be pleased to know that Bangarang by Skrillex was karaoke’ed in his honor.

This was the first time I’d ever heard a Skrillex song. I now divide my life into the BS and AS eras: Before Skrillex and After Skrillex.

That’s unfortunate! Bangarang isn’t an especially excellent example of Skrillex’s style — though it is a fun song with some provocative ideas.

I think you underestimate our capacity for procrastinating while at work.
