In an open thread, An Inside Joke had the idea for a kind of virtual OTI meetup, where we all see a movie and somehow get together online to talk about it.
We used to live-stream the podcast in a Ustream chatroom, and it might be worth reviving that for this kind of thing.
So… what movie?
Heathers! Unless no one’s up for it, in which case, this was a joke.
Or maybe Heathers is more like TFT material? Teenage girls? Hierarchy? Christian Slater as the original man bangs?
Heathers!
Or something else. I could probably be convinced to watch anything.
Heathers is available streaming on Netflix, so definitely a possibility. . .
I do love Heathers. Although with Battleship coming up, perhaps we could revisit the very first game-based movie, Clue?
I’m not clear on the logistics, though–would it be all of us watching separately, but chatting while watching? Or chatting after?
I had assumed that it would be with a new release, and that we would just congregate online at a certain time on Saturday for a seminar together via Ustream or G+ hangouts or something. The Avengers might be a good one.
I always thought The Seventh Seal was the first game-based movie.
I kind of like the idea of a new release, since it’s new for everyone and we can all share initial thoughts all at once. Of course, movie theater tickets can be expensive, so I’m OK with doing an older movie for the sake of everyone’s pocket books. . .
I know it’s probably too much to ask that we all be in the same time zones, but are are those who are interested at least on the same continent to contribute to ease of scheduling? I myself am in the Pacific time zone (and currently between jobs) so my schedule can be pretty easy.
Will we have another meetup coming up? I was really disappointed that I was unable to do the Battleship one, and have been eagerly waiting for another announcement since then. . .
Well, not many films have the same weight to throw around as the esteemed Battleship (Oscar Nomination Pending). We have a pretty good run coming up with Batman: Dark Knight Rises, and the new Spiderman movie if we keep with current theme for them.
Man, I really love this resurgent Superhero genre.
I like Heathers but I adore Clue. Anyway, the only thing I’m definitely going to see is Brave because I have to write a review on it. As for upcoming movies that might be OTI worthy, how about Les Miserables or The Great Gatsby? I’m thinking ahead because I’m assuming there has to be a reasonable level of planning and coordinating involved.
I’d hope there will be one for Brave- I’m assuming myriad OTIers will see it. I’d also make a concerted effort to see the movies you mentioned opening weekend, Cat, since I already hope to see them, anyway.
