I never get to listen to the whole podcast until 2-3 days after it’s posted since my commute is only 15 minutes long. I hope to add some l’esprit d’escalier every now and then.
Welcome! Are you a Georgia Tech alum, by any chance? (My dad and brother both went there.)
Yes, I am. My son graduated there last year. I’ve had the alias yellojkt since the days of AOL and ix.netcom.com.
Netcom! Wow, now you’re bringing back memories. I had my first proper shell account with netcom.com, which is where I learned unix back in the early 90s as a young teenager.
I believe my username back then was “zaphod”, an homage to H2G2. I then changed it to something I don’t wish to share, because I was a teenager and it’s embarrassing.
If I remember correctly, ix.netcom.com was for PPP networking, and not shell access; I was very, very excited when ix. it became available to me and I could browse hotwired.com at 48.8kbps or something using NCSA Mosaic.
