Eurovision semi-finals began on Tuesday, with the second set tonight, live from beautiful Baku, Azerbaijan, the Dubai of ~ a century ago. I’m sure there will be full-fledged articles about it as there are every year, but we can start the discussion here.

I’ll just say that I hope the Russian grandmas win it all, and I think they have a legitimate pathway to victory by placing in the top 5 or 10 of most countries’ votes.

I know that most Austrians are thoroughly embarrased by the wannabe Sir Mixalots (the ‘Trackshittaz’!) they chose to represent them with “Woki mit deim Popo” (literally, “wiggle your butt”), which apparently caused a stir in the UK because their pronunciation sounded kinda like “f*** the popo [police].” I thought they were saying “get funky mit dem Popo,” which would be “get funky with the butt” so close enough. I personally would’ve preferred their alternative (for those who don’t want to watch the video, it’s a bearded lady).
