Article Workshopping Threads

I’m not sure how much of a demand there is for this – it was an idea that occurred to me a few days ago, so I’m curious if there’s any demand for this outside myself.
I have a handful of ideas I’ve wanted to submit for potential guest posts, but none of the ideas is fully formed enough for me to feel comfortable submitting them. I’d love to talk over my ideas with other overthinkers, so I was wondering if there’s any intention of adding an “Article Workshop Forum Category” to the forums, where we can kind of mull over article ideas and get feedback before they go up on the site.
Of course, the downside of that would be that since the forums are open to all OTI readers, you could steal your own thunder by giving certain elements of your articles before they officially get posted, so I understand if you choose not to add a forum section on this, but I’m curious if anyone else has thought of this, or if there’s any chance of a forum like this appearing in the future.March 18, 2012 at 11:26 pm #24332
I would say just put any and all of your foggy ideas into forum posts. I was fighting myself over an article submission about the video game series Uncharted (PS3), but I didn’t know if I could do well enough on it to make a guest post worthy article, but I had too much to say to make a forum post. It would be way too long. In my school, we have a really great teacher who is trying to encourage critical thinking, so we are creating and updating blogs as a semester-long project. We used http://www.blogger.com to make them, and a link to mine, (OTI based) is on the forums under General Announcements: Introduce yourself: Hello. Please check it out, and tell me what you think. I think that if you can, a blog would be the best. Put a link on the site and I’d love to read it. You seem to be a capable writer, and I think that in a roundabout way, we could generate some extra traffic for OTI. I’m not sure. Just my ramblings. I don’t mean to discouarage you from submitting guest posts. By all means go ahead. I also like the idea of the Article Workshop, but it would have to have some strict courtesy rules as to not have people steal others ideas. And, the forums are kind of a place for OTI readers to just dish out their thoughts on stuff and come to an overall consensus on Pop Culture issues, like the Avengers trailer, or something like that.
I’ll try to sum it up. I see the forums as a place to just chat amongst each other, not really the best place to generate articles to submit for the site due to the amount of people giving input. (I’m not quite sure about it.) Blogs are really cool, as if you do it right, they can spread really fast and catch on as a pretty big thing, and submitting articles takes alot of work to make them the best they can be. I don’t want to change your mind on anything, those are just my two cents.March 19, 2012 at 9:22 am #24334
An Article Workshop sounds fun and useful. (Peer review!) It wouldn’t necessarily spoil the articles for everyone, because some readers of the site won’t be interested enough to read through the forums. I’d be a little worried about people stealing ideas from each other, but on the other hand, posting your idea on a forum would stamp an exact date and time on it in case you needed to later prove that you had the idea first.
