[We are proud (and more than a little astonished) that our quirky little blog has been finding an audience, and that so many of you seem to share our obsessive and idiosyncratic take on popular culture. It is particularly flattering that we have received a few requests to write on the blog. Today we welcome the first of what will eventually be several guest bloggers, some of whom may become regular bloggers. (Let us know what you think in the comments!) Some Brooklyn women who happen to support some guy named “Barack Obama” for President have created an advocacy poster that’s been getting a lot of recent media attention. Inspired by an anti-Vietnam poster that showed Joan Baez and her sisters making a similar promise to boys who protested the draft, the new poster proclaims that GIRLS SAY YES TO BOYS WHO SAY OBAMA.
In both versions, a row of women sits on a couch in their mini-skirted, mod-ish finest, looking into the eyes of potential candidates (so to speak), and apparently prepared to either spread ‘em or cross ‘em depending on voting choice.
What does this mean to fans of sex, feminism, applied linguistics, mod fashion, and, to a lesser extent, electoral politics?
Young, disciplined rookie who plays by the book gets paired with a loose cannon grizzled veteran. Haven’t I seen this one before?

Obama-Biden: clearly the Democratic Party kingmakers were out to make the perfect Buddy Cop pairing for this fall’s election! Former rivals. One’s black, the other’s white. One’s a rookie, the other’s a grizzled veteran. Together, they’ll fight crime, learn something about themselves, and help promote racial reconciliation.
It’s a good thing Obama didn’t pick an Asian guy as the second half of his Buddy Cop duo…that hasn’t worked out so well in the past:

Exhibit B: “Collision Course,” with…Pat Morita…and Jay Leno???
WTF???
BONUS: got a better title + tag line combination? Let me see it in the comments and I’ll make a new poster version from the best submission. Bonus points submissions that include a subitle for CAPITOL PUNISHMENT II. After all, every good Buddy Cop Movie gets a sequel, right?

The title here is taken from a recent post by mlawski on the difference between [Strong Female] Characters and [Strong Characters], Female. The image is a painting by the French artist Louis-Leopold Boilly, which (according to the exhibit guide at the museum I saw it in) is a symbolic representation of “the phallic mother.”
More chicks with…you know…after the jump.
[Mark Lee has been responsible for many of the memorable graphics on the site, including another inspired movie poster for Michael Bay's Ouija. We're glad to welcome him as a regular contributor, rock prodigy, and raconteur. —Ed.]

Credit goes to Matt Belinkie for the concept, but from there, my strange powers of Photoshop and the Rhys men’s suave charm did the rest.

This via Shock Till You Drop, to which I was referred by AICN.
It doesn’t even look real, does it? It’s like a poster someone would design as a joke.
But then, one could argue that Rob Zombie’s entire film career – entire life, even – is one elaborate joke.
Anyway, real or not, my world is slightly brighter for having seen this.
