I remember the 1st time I got to the end in Co-Op. Its a great ending that reminds me for some reason of the Highlander. (We've beaten the enemies...but there can be only one of us brother.)
Also, the fight at the end was quite the surprise at the 1st run-in. However, at least for me, It was the hardest fight in the game. No emotional reason, my cuz was just damn good at Double Dragon!

Hmmm. You know, while I'm sure we've all been 'moved' several times by what took place in a video game...

There's one time... relatively recently... that stands out in mind.

Have you beat MORTAL KOMBAT: DECEPTION playing as Noob-Smoke?

If you haven't, then go do it. Or, if you don't mind spoilers, watch this vid and read the rest of the post:

.
Noob Saibot, who ever since Mortal Kombat 2, was considered a mostly unimportant secret character, was elevated to the level of a full blown character in Mortal Kombat.

Not only that, but he was the ORIGINAL Subzero from Mortal Kombat 1.

And, what was shocking... was how he ruthlessly murdered his own brother in a manner more graphic than almost any fatality you'll see. (sorta like Double Dragon, eh?)

I remember dropping my controller and having my mouth gape wide open when the game ending reached the 2nd scene!

Another video game dark moment: Hobbes' betrayal in _Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger_. Anyone else remember that one? Still hurts.

Come to think of it, betrayals that reach the level of Double Dragon are rare in all forms of pop culture storytelling, not just video games. This one is exceptionally dark and twisted.

Yeah the deal with Karateka is that you have to STOP running to fight the penultimate boss monster - Akuma's Freakin bird. If you are running when the door opens... instant death. But then if you AREN'T running when you run into Kumiko's room... instant death. Reversals are a video game thing. Is it a meme?

Whoops, sorry -- it was Karateka. If you only walk (in a fighting stance, perhaps? It's unclear) into the room, she kicks you in the head and you die. For some reason, you have to run in.

"Hey baby, I just beat my brother to death. Let's go get some pie."

Didn't the princess in the original Prince of Persia kill you if you entered her chamber with your sword drawn?

That's Incredible. I have never heard anyone talk about this topic before. I grew up playing Double Dragon..Yet I never beat it or won with a co-op game. I did beat Double Dragon II though and don't even remember how it Happened.

P.S. The darkest video game ending to me is : Playstation :Metal Gear Solid. (What a great game to play to the end) "Two Disk Game"
