First off- hilarious! You’ve got a new Podcast “subscriber.” You guys are a riot and you totally remind me of the film-nerd guy friends that I grew up with. :: sigh:: Fond memories.

I just wanted to comment that I think, strangely enough, that the main problem was that Steven Spielberg directed this film. That sounds weird but what I have been thinking is that SS is a different filmmaker than he was 20 years ago. You guys actually commented on how his sensibilities regarding things like violence have changed. Too much time has passed and if they wanted to make a really faithful Indy movie they should have gone with a young director who was a dedicated fan of the original films. Someone who would work diligently to recapture the spirit of the films. Of course SS and GL would never agree to that in a million years but I offer as proof Matt’s AWESOME fanfic plot with Abner Ravenwood. (I was really glad he went into detail with that. He had a better plot than the pros came up with!) That was a demonstration of what a creative and dedicated fan can come up with and I wish the film was something more like that. I think Jackson treatment of LOTR has demonstrated how well it can work when a project is placed in the loving hands of a talented and dedicated fan. (And I hope I didn’t just totally embarrass myself by brining up LOTR but I thought he did a good job with recreating that story for the screen.) Anyway, pass my “kudos” on to Mathew.
    Thanks!

    Awesome! Thanks for reading!

And don’t worry, LOTR fans shouldn’t feel embarassed here – we just don’t have some of the raw fandom power here to keep up with the most hardcore fans.

To put it another way, this site loves Hobbits, but is a little leery of Silmarils.

Although I suppose The Silmarillion is one of the most remarkable exercises in overthinking it out there.

I’m getting ideas for posts left and right!

Wow, you guys were really hitting on all cylinders for this one.

Can you guys record a special Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan sings the Indiana Jones theme song?

Maybe that rendition of Cate Blanche does Indy as Bob Dylan should be made into a ring tone. ;-)

With you on Sillmarillion being a bit beyond the curve. While I liked LOTR I am far from being a fanatic (amusing Labraddodle post btw), I’m more of a Star Wars nerd. And I have FORMALLY DISINHERITED that new nonsense that Lucas has forced upon the world. Don’t even get me started! Although I recall you guys touched on that briefly in the podcast as well- the problem of course being that GL is too powerful now and no one puts him in check.
Anyway, looking forward to the next podcast.
