CppThis: Interesting point. It seems particularly relevant to Eastern Promises, where there’s male nudity in the fight scene and female nudity in a sex scene. (The sex scene is every bit as ugly and disturbing as the naked fight, btw.)

Doesn’t Paul Newman have to get naked to make his escape from Swedish thugs in “The prize” (1963)? I can’t remember if he actually fights anyone. Otherwise the movie plays a lot like “North by northwest” (1959), both being written by Ernest Lehmann.

I think the answer to your question lies somewhere in the movie _Species_.

Or in a blog post somebody wrote after watching _Species_ four times in a row.

That sounds like a project – and not an entirely unpleasant one . . .

. . . because of the fine performance by Sir Ben Kingsley, of course.

I mark _Species_ as the beginning of his “Slumming Period” – which continues with _The Love Guru_.

What about naked girlfights, or are there any outside of porn? Indeed, it occurs to me that there’s plenty of female nudity in sex scenes, but very little male nudity and a lot more male nudity in fight scenes than female (if there’s any at all). They say the use of cinematic nudity portrays a sort of peeling back of everything but a person’s core emotions…perhaps Hollywood is trying to make some sort of statement about gender roles, that men are natural born killers and women are sex objects? Inquiring minds want to know…
